Ferrari is stepping into the future with style. The iconic Italian luxury sports car maker has just unveiled its cutting-edge e-building, a solar-powered facility that's set to produce Ferrari’s first-ever fully electric vehicle (EV). The grand opening on Friday saw Italian President Sergio Mattarella in attendance, highlighting the significance of this milestone for the legendary brand.

This new e-building isn’t just a factory; it’s a statement. Entirely powered by renewable energy, the facility embodies Ferrari’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. CEO Benedetto Vigna declared that the new factory would “light up” Ferrari’s future, emphasizing its role in the brand’s audacious redefinition of automotive excellence.

What sets this facility apart is its comprehensive approach to EV production. The e-building will not only manufacture Ferrari’s first electric sports car but will also produce next-gen hybrids and traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It’s a versatile hub designed to drive Ferrari’s evolution forward. The factory will also house production lines for batteries, electric motors, and inverters, essential components for their electric fleet.

Ferrari has invested around $214 million (200 million euros) into this project, and it’s clear they mean business. The new plant is designed to boost efficiency and flexibility, ensuring Ferrari stays at the forefront of automotive technology.

The environmental credentials of the e-building are impressive. Over 3,000 solar panels adorn the roof, generating 1.3 MW of energy. Ferrari has also implemented systems to reuse rainwater and recover 60% of the energy used for battery and motor testing, redirecting it back into the production process. It’s a high-tech, eco-friendly powerhouse.

This significant development comes on the heels of reports suggesting that Ferrari’s first EV sports car will carry a price tag of at least $535,000 (500,000 euros). But Ferrari isn’t stopping at just one electric vehicle; sources reveal that a second EV is already in the works, set to be built at the new facility.

Ferrari’s journey towards electrification has been steadily accelerating. Last year, they introduced their first plug-in hybrid, the SF90 Stradale, marking a significant step in their commitment to green technology. By 2026, Ferrari aims for EVs and plug-in hybrids to make up 60% of their sales.
